About our Chamber

WHO ARE WE

The Corrimal Chamber of Commerce was first established in 1949 by a number of local business people who had recognized the value of coming together to promote their interests-in-common for the growth of the area.

Today, the Corrimal Chamber consists of an Executive Committee made up of 8 local businesses along with numerous sub committees and advisors from other various organisations within the area. These businesses who all share a like minded vision for the Greater Corrimal region have recently come together (July 2005) to re-establish the Chambers activities of the past. This current Committee has a lot of energy, passion and drive with the common aim to see the area grow and flourish.

Most importantly, the Chamber provides a regular meeting place for all members and interested parties to debate, and progress matters concerning the community along with pursue networking and educational opportunities. We aim to "Make a Difference".

OUR VISION

To provide a central point for businesses to connect and contribute towards positive change and growth of Corrimal and the surrounds as a major town and commercial hub in the Northern Illawarra region

OUR MISSION

To advance business within Corrimal and surrounding areas by delivering innovation, leadership, advocacy, promotion of business interests and establishing long term relationships with key business partners.

OUR PURPOSE

Years ago it was generally thought that a Chamber of Commerce was a group of staid, stuffy people that basically used the meeting nights for socializing or self gain.

Today, the Chamber has a very important and wider role to play in the community...

It is important for business people, regardless of whether they are fledgling or established businesses, to have a point of reference for support or advice. That is usually your local Chamber of Commerce.
Apart from representation to Council, the Chamber has access to legal advice on a state level through Regional Membership. This flows over into information regarding manufacture, tourism, import and export.
A Chamber that liaises regularly with their local council means that local issues that affect the CBD can be addressed and in some instances, fast tracked. These are usually in the areas of maintenance and beautification, parking etc.
Attracting new and innovative business into the area is vital for shopping centers, and it is therefore important for Chambers to work closely with Property Managers and Real Estate Agents.
As well as matters directly related to business there is involvement with community groups, schools, churches, artistic and cultural etc. organising fundraising for charities, festivals and other promotions etc. even venturing into the realms of tourism.
Networking with other Chambers makes good business sense. This enables Chambers to benefit from successful ideas and systems to generate business and create unity between the community and business.
Attending meetings to network locally is also an integral part of being a Chamber member.
State and Regional Development initiated “Main Street Programme” places greater emphasis on the importance of your local Chamber of Commerce. (Currently provides a type of mentorship, forums, ongoing workshops, annual seminars continual support etc).
